Translational ANZGOG, ‘TR-ANZGOG’, is an exciting ANZGOG research initiative established to achieve a 2015 ANZGOG Strategic Goal: “World-class translational research in gynaecological cancers”.

TR-ANZGOG Steering Committee Chair, Professor Anna DeFazio and TR-ANZGOG Project Manager, Claire Davies launched TR-ANGOG through a presentation to AGM attendees, giving background to the need for this translational research initiative, and advising of the Principles and methods established for its implementation.

Translational research describes the process where scientific discoveries in the laboratory translate into improved practice in the clinic.

The key elements needed to integrate TR-ANZGOG into future ANZGOG trials have now been established. TR-ANZGOG Network Laboratories will help process, store and distribute samples generously donated by women participating in ANZGOG trials, to maximize both the woman’s participation, and the financial investment made in the trial.

“Translational research is now front and centre of many cancer clinical trials. TR-ANZGOG aims to support trial investigators to achieve their translational aims, and to support current and future research that will improve outcomes for women with gynaecological cancer.”

Professor Anna DeFazio
