Welcome, and thank you for your interest in gynaecological cancer research conducted by the Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG). As the leading research organization in Australia and New Zealand, our mission is simple: Advancing Research, Saving Lives.

ANZGOG brings together over 1,500 members across Australia and New Zealand who are experts in gynaecological cancer, including surgical and medical oncologists, researchers, and allied health professionals. Just as importantly, we collaborate with those who have lived experience—survivors, carers, and advocates—whose insights help shape and strengthen our research. These members work together to bring the best treatments possible to women with gynaecological cancer.

Together, we’re driving breakthroughs in treatment and improving outcomes for women.

Multidisciplinary

We bring together the brightest minds in gynaecological oncology, from a range of specialities and disciplines, to create research of the highest quality for women.

Community Input

People with a lived experience help shape our research at every stage of the research development process, ensuring its relevancy and enabling them to have a voice.

Equitable Access

We are inclusive and strive to enable access to and benefit from our research for all, ensuring that our research engages women from a range of diverse backgrounds and regional/rural areas.

Every Woman’s Cancer is Unique – So is Our Research

Gynaecological cancers are complex, and no two women experience them the same way. Research over the past decade has revealed that these cancers behave differently at a molecular level, driven by unique genetic expressions.

At ANZGOG, we recognise this individuality. Our research is focused on developing targeted treatments that move beyond the outdated, one-size-fits-all approach, because precision leads to better outcomes.

Progress only comes through research… we can’t make progress or change outcomes unless we undertake clinical trial research”

Professor Michael Friedlander AM
Medical Oncologist, ANZGOG Co-founder

ANZGOG members work together to drive innovative research that transforms treatment pathways and improves outcomes for women. Through our clinical trials, women diagnosed with gynaecological cancer gain access to the latest, cutting-edge treatments from around the world.

With 80 research-ready sites across Australia and New Zealand—spanning both metropolitan and regional centres—we ensure more women have the opportunity to participate in life-changing research. As part of a global collaboration, we share knowledge and trial breakthroughs to accelerate progress and avoid duplication.

“ANZGOG’s extensive collaborations across our multidisciplinary membership give us critical reach and power. Put simply, our collaborative approach can be transformative.  We are committed to realising this potential by continually building support for discovery research, clinical trials and supportive care reasearch needed to improve outcomes for women with gynaecological cancers and their families.

Professor Clare Scott AM
ANZGOG Chair 2022-2026

ANZGOG’s Latest Trials

ANZGOG trials are led by our members, with some developed locally and others run as part of international collaborations, where ANZGOG leads the Australian and New Zealand operations. This allows ANZGOG to offer a wide range of trials and fast-track new treatments for women.

For more information on ANZGOG’s trials, please contact us or visit our website. Always speak to your oncologist for more information on how to participate in a clinical trial.

IGNITE

IGNITE is testing how effective adavosertib treatment is for patients with relapsed high grade serous or endometrioid ovarian cancer with particular genetic faults, which alter how tumour cells respond to treatment.

ADELE

ADELE is a randomised phase 2 trial testing the effect of adjuvant tislelizumab plus chemotherapy after post-operative pelvic chemoradiation in high risk endometrial cancer.

EPOCH

EPOCH is seeking to improve outcomes in women with tubo-ovarian or uterine carcinosarcoma by providing patients with access to a treatment that offers a greater degree of clinical benefit compared to currently available standard chemotherapeutic options.

I am alive because of a clinical trial. Ther’s no other way to make change or drive improvements, Being part of a trial can give hope along with the reward of knowing you’re contributing to something bigger.”

Groundbreaking research is costly and critically underfunded in Australia. We rely on generous donations to drive the next breakthroughs in treatment and improve survival rates for women facing these cancers. You can help us change the future of gynaecological cancer treatment.

Our Research Programs

ANZGOG focuses on key research areas to advance treatment and care for women affected by gynaecological cancers:

OASIS Initiative

The OASIS Initiative is a collaborative research program between ANZGOG and the Australian Ovarian Cancer Study to undertake small signal-seeking trials that show sufficient evidence of clinical activity to allow larger randomised trials.

EDEN

The EnDomEtrial caNcer Research Initiative – EDEN – is a collaborative research program established by ANZGOG in 2021, to address the significant unmet needs of endometrial cancer patients in Australia and New Zealand.

Patient Referral Networks Project

The Patient Referral Networks Project aims to build regional and rural capacity for gynaecological cancer research, enabling patients in these areas to access ANZGOG research. The project aims to connect regional sites with metropolitan trial units, promote the use of teletrials in ANZGOG research, and understand and address barriers to trial participation for underserved population groups.

Get Involved – Make a Difference

Your support can help drive life-saving research and improve outcomes for women with gynaecological cancer. Here’s how you can make an impact:

KAREN LIVINGSTONE AM – ANZGOG Manager, Advocacy and Development

Following the death of her mother and aunt from ovarian cancer, Karen Livingstone AM has been an advocate, pushing for increased awareness, and funding for research to improve survival for women.  Karen also subsequently discovered that she carries the BRCA2 gene mutation, which puts her and her family at a higher population risk.

In 2001, Karen along with a small, committed group founded the ovarian cancer consumer movement in Australia to ensure no woman would travel alone after a diagnosis.

She was invited to join the ANZGOG Board as an inaugural consumer director and served between 2008-2017.

In 2018, Karen was a Finalist in the Victorian, Australian of the Year, and in 2019, Karen was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to community health as an advocate for ovarian cancer research.

Karen Livingstone AM is the Manager of Advocacy and Development raising vital funds to support ANZGOG’s research and education programs Advancing Research, saving lives.

“We need to invest more in medical research, and we need to act more in prevention.  They’re the things that will make a difference. So many inroads have been undertaken into personalised treatments and that’s going to be a major change agent for improved survival and better quality of life for women with gynaecological cancer.”
