Group Profile

The Australia New Zealand Gynaecological Oncology Group (ANZGOG) was established in late 2000 to improve gynaecological cancer treatment and outcomes through a cooperative approach with participation in clinical trials and multidisciplinary research. In August 2009, ANZGOG successfully become an incorporated not-for-profit entity.  However, whilst ANZGOG governance is now independent of the Univeristy of Sydney, the group stills continues to maintain its former collaborative and efficient relationship with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Clinical Trial Centre (CTC) at the University of Sydney.  Thus, currently a majority of the ANZGOG clinical trial portfolio is still coordinated through the CTC.

ANZGOG is a non-profit organisation dedicated to gynaecological cancer research, conducting national clinical trials and participating in international collaborative trials. This research is in all forms of gynaecological malignancies with multicentre institutional involvement by over 51 sites throughout Australia and New Zealand. The trial programmes involve the evaluation of novel therapies in gynaecological cancer as well as medical research for the prevention and mitigation of gynaecological malignancies, with the aim of facilitating improvements in treatment into practice, with minimal delay. To this end, the group is involved in promoting public education and awareness of gynaecological cancers and their treatment.

ANZGOG collaborates with many international study groups treating gynaecological malignancies, through membership of the Gynaecological Cancer Intergroup (GCIG). This group includes the US Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), UK Medical Research Council (MRC), ARCAGY (France), SGCTG (Scottish Gynaecological Cancer Trials Group) and the EORTC in Belgium.
